Registration for Booth Spaces is Now Available to Our Membership for the 2019 DPHA Product Showcase

Do you want to end your year with a bang? If so, DPHA is providing an opportunity for member companies to place their products in front of an elite group of experienced and market-savvy distributors that run the best showrooms in North America. Plan to exhibit at the 2019 DPHA Annual Conference and Product Showcase, November 7-10, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Seattle in Seattle, WA.

This year's showcase will once again be a must-see event! DPHA will conduct a multifaceted marketing campaign targeting hundreds of dealer showrooms throughout North America. This effort will provide multiple reasons for dealers to attend. We will partner with you and every one of the Showcase exhibitors to promote new products, existing products and current best-selling products through Connections and creative eblasts.

We will work with each exhibitor to identify dealers that would benefit from attending the Conference and reach out to help encourage them to attend. DPHA will create an easy button that Showcase exhibitors can use to promote their participation at the Conference by providing compelling content that you can issue to your customers and prospects that explain the benefits dealers will receive from attending the Conference.

The venue offers another incentive for DPHA members to attend. We again will be located at a first-class hotel with all of the amenities, services and luxury experiences that you expect from an award-winning property with one exception - the price. We've negotiated an unbelievable room rate of $199 per night plus tax.

Space is already being reserved, but you still have a chance to join these other members who will be promoting their products and services in Seattle, WA (as of Wednesday evening, May 22):

Open Floor Plan Baths

During the last decade, the shower has undergone a metamorphosis, especially in newly built or remodeled master baths in (service territory names). Showers are now a focal point that can set the tone for the entire bathroom. Central to the transformation of the shower has been the introduction of functionally and technologically superior showerheads, light therapy (chromatherapy), aromatherapy, steam, music systems, bluetooth applications and many other products that enable homeowners to convert what was once viewed primarily as a utilitarian area into a personal design statement and in-home refuge.

The Current State of Bathroom Design

Bathroom design has climbed numerous notches in the past decade. Today, successful design in (service territory names) focuses on creating a personal oasis that provides an escape from the outside world. It is a space that you call your own, devoid of texts and tweets, and a space that enables you to literally wash away the stresses of the day.

Fred Silverstein, 1932 - 2019

It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that DPHA and its members learned of the unexpected passing of Fred Silverstein on April 28th. For anyone who knew Fred, many words come to mind - gentleman, icon, mentor and Fellow (to mention a few) - but perhaps the best word that would describe Fred to the decorative plumbing and hardware industry is "pioneer."

A true pioneer of the decorative plumbing industry, Fred Silverstein founded Plumbing World, a small plumbing supply house in Long Beach, California, back in 1977, and was willing to take the risk of being an early adopter, building out an extensive showroom, and becoming one of the first distributors to promote such lines as Grohe, Artistic Brass and Harden.  He never looked back, and spent every year since then innovating and supporting not only the decorative plumbing industry, but also the independent channel.

After growing Plumbing World into a local decorative plumbing destination and a brief stint distributing decorative faucets on the West Coast, he created California Faucets in 1988. In an industry that accepted 6 to 8 week lead times as normal and acceptable, Fred strove to do better. Through improved operations, the entire industry now benefits from this massive shift as what is viewed as an acceptable lead time.

While the two companies Fred founded obviously speak to his exceptional entrepreneurial talents, they also represent a very rare accomplishment: Fred was a pioneer on both the dealer and manufacturer sides of the business.  He intuitively understood the nature of each, and he was undoubtedly among a very small group of individuals who truly developed and deeply impacted the growth and trajectory of the decorative plumbing industry we know today.

As Fred liked to say: “You can tell if you have a real partner, not when things are going well, but when there is a problem. That’s when you find out who’s really supporting you." In plumbing, there are always going to be occasional problems, but for Fred it was how you handled those problems that truly define the success of the business relationship.

As for Fred’s support of DPHA, he was a charter member of the organization and continually supported it, not only with annual sponsorships and exhibiting at the annual conference, but by encouraging key people in the company to get involved. Most notably, when past DPHA President, Steven Weinberg, joined California Faucets, Fred encouraged him to continue his involvement by remaining on the Board.  By nature, Fred was not a public figure.  Not everyone contributes the same way to organizations or industries.  Fred was an intense behind-the-scenes “doer” by nature, but his impact was large.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the entire California Faucets and Silverstein families. Fred will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

Did You Know You Can Find the Helpful Hints Articles on Our Website?

We have heard from many of you over the past several years regarding how much you have enjoyed reading the Helpful Hints (and before that, the 5 Things You May Not Have Known) articles in our weekly eletter, Connections, but did you know that these articles remain available for reading on our website? These articles are written monthly (more or less) by members of our Education Committee, and offer unique industry perspectives from manufacturer, dealer and manufacturer representative members.

There's a place on the members-portal side of the DPHA web site (simply follow the path "Resources to Train the Team > Helpful Hints and 5 Things May Not Have Known Articles") where you can read and/or download past articles. The cost for DPHA members? Absolutely nothing. Availabiliy? As long as you have your login credentials, these are available 24/7/365 - it's another benefit of membership. So go ahead and check it out, and if you have forgotten your login credentials to the members portal, email Rebekah Covay.

Obtain the ROI From Your Bath Remodel That You Expect and Deserve

Most homeowners in (insert names of areas you service) decide to renovate their bathroom because their current bath no longer meets their needs, and life is too short not to live in a space that makes you smile every time you use it. If you are considering a remodel for a bath that is either functionally or aesthetically underwhelming, there are compelling reasons to make a change.

The Only Thing To Fear Is Fear Itself

The initial elation of moving into a new home in (name of service territories) usually wanes over time. The way we live, entertain and relax undergoes a metamorphosis. We may start families or change careers. Children leave the nest. Hobbies become passions. Aging is a fact of life and change is a constant, but your home might not keep up.

The Timetable for Product Showcase Booth Registration at the 2019 Annual Conference

DPHA continues to receive numerous inquiries regarding booth registration for the 2019 Product Showcase at the Hyatt Regency Seattle in Seattle, WA, November 7-10. This is to reassure everyone that if you are a DPHA member and want to exhibit, you probably have not missed anything. The Product Showcase booth registration process just started, and in keeping with our usual protocol, we sent/send notices for booth sign-ups and selections in the following order:

  • Gold corporate sponsors - issued Tuesday, April 23rd
  • Silver corporate sponsors - issued Friday, April 26th
  • Bronze corporate sponsors - issued Thursday, May 2nd
  • 2019 Conference sponsors (and then usually 3 working days later ...)
  • 2018 Exhibitors (and then usually 4 working days later ...)
  • General membership

Additionally, when booth registration is open to the general membership, it will be announced in Connections as well as in a separate email blast and on our social media. Watch for more updates and the booth registration announcements. We only have 70 booth spaces (10' by 10') again this year, and if things go like they have the past several years, the majority of the booths will be booked within a few weeks after registration is open to everyone.

If you have any other questions or need help with something else, don't hesitate to contact Rebekah Covay at rebekah@dpha.net or at 630-854-3911. And for those who are inquiring about our regular conference attendee registration, we will be sending out those notices sometime in June 2019.

One Last Reminder - Did You Miss the 2018 Conference? That Doesn't Mean Though That You Need to Miss the Content

Before we begin actively promoting the 2019 Annual Conference and Product Showcase in the upcoming months, we wanted to remind you that many DPHA members were so thoroughly impressed with the quality of content presented at the 2018 Annual Conference, they wanted us to help you share the experience and knowledge with you and your coworkers. Again, here's your chance. DPHA has posted the following videos on the DPHA web site (unfortunately, we were not allowed to video record Bob Phibbs' presentation):

  • 2018 Product of the Year Awards
  • Avish Parashar: When Ding Happens
  • Ty Bennett: Partnership is the New Leadership
  • 2018 Saturday Awards Luncheon and Professionals of the Year Awards

To view the videos, log on to the Members Portal side of www.dpha.net, follow the path "Member Resources > Resources to Train Your Team", click on the 2018 Conference Videos entry and then click on the link of the video you wish to view (or if you want to vier the 2016 and/or 2017 speakers, click on those corresponding links). If you need your login information and/or the password for the videos (which is also listed on the 2018 Conference Videos page), please email Rebekah Covay at rebekah@dpha.net.
